Using the laser printers
How to use the printing system in the University Computing Labs and InfoCommons

Dot matrix printing

Help

Beginning January 2004, every K-Stater will be eligible for $10 worth of high quality laser printing in the spring and fall semesters and $5 in the summer-- free. The $10 value is equivalent to 100 black and white printed pages or 13 color laser printed pages. All you need is your eID account and password.

Printing can be single or double sided.  If you print single-sided jobs, the cost is 10 cents per page.  If printing double-sided jobs (duplex mode), the cost is 10 cents for the first side and 8 cents for the second side.

When you print from a computer in the lab, all laser print jobs go to the Printer Station near the laser printer. Your print job is not actually printed until you go to the Print Station computer. Either login with your eID and password to receive free printing or insert your Wildcat card into the card reader to pay for printing and select your print job from the queue. Your print job is then printed by the adjoining laser printer. Either your free printing balance or your Wildcat card will be debited accordingly. Print jobs not run within 30 minutes are deleted automatically from the Printer Station queue at no cost to the original sender.

To print to the laser printers from the University Computing Lab and InfoCommons computers, follow the simple steps below:

  1. First, in the application you would like to print from, click File, then click Print. A dialog box will appear. Select the laser printer from the drop down box. If you would like to change your printing options, click Properties and edit the configuration of your print job (i.e. single or double sided printing, portrait or landscape, ect.)  Click Print at the bottom of the dialog box to send the job to the printer.
  2. Another dialog box will come up that asks you to name your print job.  You must enter something in this box. Generally, people will use their name, but any word you can remember will work. Click on OK.
  3. When you are ready to get your documents, go to the Print Station by the laser printer. Either login with your eID and password to receive free printing or insert your Wildcat card into the card reader to pay for printing. The monitor will show a list of available print jobs. Highlight your print job and click on Print at the bottom of the screen. Your print job will be printed by the adjoining laser printer. If you used your Wildcat card, don't forget to eject your card when you are finished.
